#1 CCS increases proficiency for 3rd year in a row; grad rate tops 90%; all elementary schools meet or exceed growth
|
For the third straight year, Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) increased its overall proficiency rate according to state testing results released by the NC Board of Education this week.
The grade level proficiency (GLP) rate in CCS rose to 61.6 percent, ranking CCS 15th among North Carolina’s 115 school districts and 3rd among the 12 largest school districts across the state. CCS ranks ninth statewide in College-Career Readiness (CCR).
For the first time since 2017, all CCS elementary schools met or exceeded expected growth.
“We are encouraged by the recent release of state test scores, which reflect the continued growth and progress of our students in CCS,” said Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki. “These results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff, Board of Education, administrators, and district leaders who are committed to providing a high-quality education for every student. While we celebrate these gains, we remain focused on areas within our district that need continuous improvement and will use this data to guide our efforts in ensuring that all students reach their full academic potential."
The CCS graduation rate increased for the third consecutive year, climbing from 88.9% in 2022-23 to 90.6% in 2023-24.
This year’s data reveals:
⦁8 of 41 schools (19.5%) received an "A" rating, far exceeding the state proportion of 7.5% receiving "A" grades.
⦁The percentage of CCS schools receiving either an "A" or "B" rating increased from 15 to 17 schools. This amounts to 41% of CCS schools receiving an "A" or "B" rating, exceeding the state proportion of 27.8% receiving a grade of "A" or "B".
⦁80.4% of CCS schools either met or exceeded expected growth. This exceeds the state average of 72.5% of schools meeting or exceeding expected growth.
⦁ Cabarrus County Schools’ 61.6% proficiency rate is the highest value since the 2018-19 school year. The proficiency across the state of NC this year was 54.2%.

#3 Volunteering at your child's school
|
Volunteering at your child's school is a powerful way to make a positive impact on their education and the school community. It not only shows your child that you value their learning experience but also helps build a stronger, more connected school environment. Whether it's helping with events, assisting in the classroom, or supporting extracurricular activities, your involvement fosters a sense of partnership between parents, teachers, and students. By giving your time, you’re contributing to a better school experience for all children, creating a more vibrant and engaged community.
CABARRUS COUNTY SCHOOLS’ VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
- Volunteers are individuals who willingly undertake a service of an assigned task performed within our schools and are approved by the school administration.
- Volunteers are business partners, senior citizens, family members, and community members who care about schools and want to be involved in the education of our children.
- Volunteers participate in a classroom setting during the school day or outside the school setting as part of an extracurricular activity.
- Volunteers are utilized in a variety of situations in schools, ranging from one time only to monthly, weekly or daily commitments.
- Volunteers are placed in all grades, from pre-kindergarten to high school, and in all subject areas.
- Volunteers play an important role in the success of our schools by providing an extra set of hands, helping increase community support for schools, and giving teachers more time to concentrate on instruction.
- To understand more about the Volunteer process and to read the CCS Code of Conduct, click on this document link: CODE OF CONDUCT
